Second stakes win for Wind And The Lion

Riverdene Stud bred, raised and sold Wind And The Lion became a multiple Listed Race winner when claiming the HG Bolton Sprint (1200m) at Bunbury at just the 3-year-old’s 10th career start.

Previously successful in the Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) at Ascot last November, the striking brown/black son of Written By was sent to post the $2.25 favourite of the nine-horse black-type contest and proved to be a game winner of the open-aged event with William Pike in the saddle.

William Pike delivers Wind And The Lion late to land his second stakes win

Wind And The Lion took his record to three wins and two placings for $425,115 in earnings. His stakes performances also include third in the Listed Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) late last year when beaten just over a length by Cashel Prince — the latter in receipt of 6kgs.

The rising 4-year-old was sold for just $62,500 at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and has already amassed close to seven-times his purchase price.

Wind And The Lion is trained by Sean & Jake Casey at Bullsbrook in Western Australia on behalf of very well-known Perth owner Wally Daly. The gelding is one of six stakes winners sired by Widden Stud stallion Written By, the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) winning son of Written Tycoon.
